A warehouse is a building that is used for storing goods. They are used by manufacturers, importers, exporters, wholesalers, transport businesses and many more, all over the world. They are usually presented as very large, plain looking buildings that are located in industrial parks on the outskirts of towns and cities.
Warehouses can store anything from manufactured goods to raw materials and come in all shapes and sizes. They typically contain large open spaces with storage racking and machinery and equipment such as forklifts, conveyors and automated retrieval systems used to transport items around the facility.
These facilities are responsible for the safe storage of valuable goods, materials and equipment and must, therefore, have suitable fire detection systems in place to provide a fast and reliable warning of fire. They also often contain vast numbers of staff who must also be kept safe at all times.
Reflective Beam Detection
Reflective beam detectors are commonly used in large, open areas in which standard point smoke detectors may be uneconomical or ineffective.
Reflective beam detectors use a projected beam of light to detect smoke across large areas onto a retroreflector that reflects the light back to the detector. If there is any smoke present it blocks some of the light from the beam and, once a certain percentage of the transmitted light is blocked, the detector sends a signal of alarm to the fire alarm control panel.
Optical beam smoke detectors are commonly used to detect fires in large commercial and industrial buildings or applications with large open spaces. They are cost-effective and easy to install and maintain.
Handpicked Products for Warehouses
OSID (Open-Area Smoke Imaging Detection) is Xtralis’ innovative range of beam detection devices.
OSID Reflective is a reflector type linear optical beam smoke detector. It features a transmitter and receiver housed in one stylish and compact unit that can be connected to a conventional detector circuit.
OSID reflective transmits a beam of light towards a high-efficiency reflector which bounces the beam back to the receiver. The signal that is returned is analysed and changes in signal strength are used to determine the alarm condition.
The receiver has a wide, 12° field of view and automatically tracks the reflector making it practically impossible for the receiver to lose the reflector, even in the case of building movement. This vastly reduces nuisance alarms and faults. OSID reflective is also unaffected by sunlight, reflected sunlight or any other bright light sources.
Typical Beam Diagram
OSID reflective is effective across areas from 5 to 100 meters.
Beam Detector and Power Suppply
The OSID Reflective Smoke Beam Detector is a combined transmitter and receiver that projects a beam of light towards a high-efficiency reflector. This returns the beam to the receiver and the change in signal received by the detector unit is used to determine the alarm condition.
Xtralis 0.5A Power Supply Units are technically matched to provide sufficient current and battery charging capacity for Xtralis OSID Reflective Beam Detector, meeting all the requirements of EN54-4.
