Using Hybrid Fire Detection for Aesthetically Sensitive Interiors

Search

The aesthetics of any building are important. The lines, shapes, size, texture, colour balance and many other aspects all contribute to how a building looks and feels. Without proper consideration and design, buildings would just be uninspirational and drab structures. It is important that buildings not only look great from the outside but that they impress on the inside too.

When we talk about the aesthetics of a building’s interior, we are not necessarily just referring to elaborate artwork and structural masterpieces such as those often found in cathedrals and churches. We are also considering anything that contributes to the overall look and feel of a building and, ultimately, anything that helps to create the right environment for the building’s purpose. When architects design a building’s interior, they use a creative process to create a unified whole, whether that building is a home, a shop, an office building or a place of worship.

Fire Detection for Aesthetically Sensitive Interiors

Typically, when a building is designed for a purpose, the fire alarm requirements are known from the very early stages and any wiring that is required will be installed during the “first fix” stages. This means that cables can be run and installed without damaging the finish of an intricately plastered ceiling or a beautifully painted wall. But what if that fire alarm becomes faulty or needs updating to meet requirements? What if you are repurposing an old building into offices and need to install a fire alarm system to keep your workers safe? Running cables can be impractical and cause lasting damage to the aesthetics of the building.

Wi-Fyre Fire Detection for Aesthetically Sensitive Interiors

Wi-Fyre creates the possibility to combine hardwired fire detection technology with wireless fire detection technology. This gives the system designer the freedom to use wireless detection devices where necessary to avoid expensive, time-consuming and damaging cable runs.

Wi-Fyre can be used to form part of a new fire alarm installation or to extend or update an existing hardwired solution. An existing system can easily, and cost-effectively, be updated to meet legal requirements or to add new devices to cover an extension or outbuilding without the need to run cables.

To ensure increased compatibility with most existing hardwired systems, Wi-Fyre has six user-selectable modes of operation:

  • Conventional
  • Addressable (Collective)
  • ProFyre 2-Wire Addressable
  • ProFyre Addressable
  • Standalone
  • Reflective

How Does Wi-Fyre Work

Wi-Fyre transponders are installed into the fire alarm’s wiring via a compatible interface. Each transponder can then communicate with up to thirty wireless field devices such as manual call points, smoke and heat detectors, sounders and input/output devices.

A wireless survey must be conducted using the Wi-Fyre survey head to ensure that the signal between the transponder and the installed device is strong enough to operate effectively.
