Panasonic IP67 and ATEX Compliant Detectors

Search

Panasonic’s range of enclosed conventional heat detectors offers state of the art heat detection that is rated for use in outdoor or humid areas. These enclosed heat detectors are waterproof devices that are ATEX compliant, which means they are also safe for use in an environment with an explosive atmosphere.

These detectors cover a range of heat detector classes in accordance with EN54:5. Panasonic enclosed heat detectors are housed in a stylish casing and offer LED indication. There is also an output available for an exterior LED indicator.

Fixed Temperature Alarm Levels

Panasonic enclosed conventional heat detectors are available with a range of heat ratings, covering a variety of EN54:5 classes:

Model Number Temperature Rating Class
6295 57°C A2 S (54 to 70°C)
6296 72°C B S (69 to 85°C)
6297 87°C C S (84 to 100°C)
6298 117°C E S (114 to 130°C)

ATEX Compliance

ATEX is the name commonly given to two European directives for controlling explosive atmospheres. Explosive atmospheres in the workplace can be caused by flammable gases, mists and vapours or by combustible dusts.

The two directives that typically fall under the ATEX umbrella are:

  • Directive 99/92/EC (also known as the ATEX Workplace Directive) which states the minimum requirements for improving the health and safety of workers potentially at risk from explosive atmospheres.
  • Directive 94/9/EC (also known the ATEX Equipment Directive) on the approximation of the laws of Members States concerning equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.[1]

Panasonic enclosed detectors are ATEX compliant and are, therefore, rated for use in areas with explosive atmospheres.

IP67

IP codes classify and rate the degree of protection that electrical enclosures provide against intrusion, dust, accidental contact and water. IP codes are made up of two numbers:

  • The first digit represents the level of protection that the enclosure provides against access to hazardous parts and the ingress of solid foreign object e.g. dust. In this case, the enclosures rating is 6, meaning that it offers complete protection from dust.
  • The second digit indicates the level of protection that the enclosure provides against water. In this case, the enclosures rating is 7, indicating that ingress of water in harmful quantity should not be possible when the enclosure is immersed in water up to 1m under defined conditions of pressure and time.[2]

Therefore, IP67 indicates that Panasonic enclosed detectors are waterproof up to 1m and completely dust proof.
