Extending a Fire Detection System with Wi-Fyre Xenos

6 mins read

Fire alarm systems are an essential feature of most buildings. Whatever the purpose of the building, whether residential, commercial or industrial, fire alarm systems help to protect the buildings contents, the building itself and, most importantly, human life.

Installing a fire alarm system can take a lot of planning and preparation. Larger installations can take a lot of time requiring huge amounts of cabling to be laid, while smaller systems can be deployed quite quickly.

Fire alarm systems need to be maintained and kept up-to-date to ensure they meet the requirements of the building. In some circumstances, fire alarms may need to be extended or have parts upgraded. There are several reasons why this may be the case, including:

Expansion of a building
If a building undergoes expansion or renovation, it may be necessary to extend the fire alarm system to cover the newly added areas.
Change in layout
If there are changes in the layout or use of a building, such as the addition of new rooms, partitions, or walls, it may be necessary to extend the fire alarm system to accommodate these changes.
Compliance with regulations
Fire safety regulations and codes may require specific coverage and detection requirements based on the size, occupancy and use of a building. If there are changes in the regulations or if the building’s purpose changes, it may be necessary to extend the fire alarm system to comply with the updated requirements.
Improved coverage
Sometimes, after conducting a risk assessment, it may be determined that certain areas of a building are not adequately covered by the existing fire alarm system.

There are a number of options for extending or upgrading fire alarm systems. However, some are more practical and cost-effective than others.

Extending a Fire Detection System

Running new cabling for hardwired devices can be time consuming and disruptive. While hardwired devices may have lower upfront costs, this is often offset by higher installation costs and/or business downtime.

Wireless fire alarm systems, on the other hand, offer advantages such as easy installation without extensive wiring, flexibility for system layout and expansion, cost-effectiveness in certain scenarios and reduced disruption during installation.

Wi-Fyre Xenos

Wi-Fyre Xenos systems can be installed extremely quickly and the wireless infrastructure required for the system to operate efficiently can be predetermined by conducting a Xenos system survey.

Wi-Fyre Xenos Wireless Conventional Translators can be installed into the existing fire alarm system as non-addressable devices (group/zone) to communicate with up to 32 devices (per translator). There are a variety of wireless devices in the Xenos range including heat and smoke detectors, sounders and VADs, manual call points and input and output devices .

The entire system can be programmed, configured and tested away from the property to further reduce installation time. This means precise planning, equipment requirements and costs are guaranteed and minimises the impact on the day-to-day operation of the building.

Wi-Fyre Xenos is fully certified to the relevant EN54 standards and offers the highest performing range of fire sensing and notification to provide the best possible solution for heritage or listed buildings from fire.

Xenos Expander Modules can also be used to extend the range of the network by up to 1km per module and increase the stability and continuity of the system.

Wireless Survey

When installing Wi-Fyre Xenos, it is essential that a wireless survey is conducted before installation. This not only ensures that the alarm system will operate efficiently, but also speeds up installation time.

A Wi-Fyre Xenos survey kit is available from Eurofyre to make carrying out a site survey quick and easy. The kit provides all the equipment that is needed to test channels and frequency bands that will be used. The option to hire a complete survey kit (UK only) makes the process even more cost-effective.

Wireless Remote Programming Support

Programming Xenos devices off-site reduces installation time, the number of engineers required for installation and, ultimately, the overall cost of installation.

Eurofyre has a unique understanding of the challenges of programming on-site; difficult access, multiple trades working in the same area, insufficient workspace and more. Therefore, we offer programming support to ensure you can make good use of the benefits off-site programming provides.
