Overview
FyreLine EN54 Fixed Linear Heat Detection provides a fixed heat detection solution that is approved to BS EN54-28:2016; the European Standard for non-resettable line-type heat detectors.
FyreLine EN54 Fixed supports two zones of up to 1000m and can be connected to either a conventional or addressable fire alarm control panel. Once a zone has been triggered, the system’s control panel calculates the distance along the cable to the alarm location, enabling the end user to investigate the threat and take the necessary action.
A FyreLine EN54 Fixed Linear Heat Detection system is comprised of three key components: FyreLine EN54 Fixed LSZH LHD Cable, FyreLine EN54 Fixed Controller and FyreLine EN54 Fixed End Of Line (EOL).
FyreLine EN54 Fixed LSZH LHD Cable is installed in the protected area and used to detect overheat events. The controller sits between the heat sensing cable and the fire alarm control panel to monitor the condition of the cable and relay any events to the fire alarm control panel. The FyreLine EN54 EOL is used to terminate the other end of the heat sensing cable.
FyreLine EN54 Fixed Controller
The FyreLine EN54 Fixed Controller is a dual zone module for monitoring up to two zones of FyreLine EN54 Fixed Linear Heat Detection (LHD) Cable. The EN54 Controller monitors the cable for overheat conditions, and once an event has been triggered, it automatically calculates and displays the distance along the cable to the alarm point.
Each zone of the FyreLine EN54 controller can operate either independently of each other, or in interlock mode. Separate alarm and normally conducting fault output are available for each zone.
The controller has power, fault and alarm lights that give clear indication of the system’s current status and volt-free outputs for each zone to signal fault or alarm.
It may also be connected to an industrial process control system using the two wire RS-485 Modbus RTU/ASCII output.
FyreLine EN54 Fixed LSZH LHD Cable
FyreLine EN54 Fixed Linear Heat Detection Cable uses fixed temperature detection technology to provide a simple method of sensing changes in temperature. It is suitable for a wider range of applications and environments such as tunnels, cable trays, warehousing, escalators and other applications where the risks of fire are hidden from view.
FyreLine EN54 Fixed Linear Heat Detection Cable is a non-resettable line-type heat detector. It is made up of two twisted cores that are separated by an advanced temperature sensitive polymer. When the temperature sensitive polymer reaches its rated temperature it softens, allowing the cores to come into contact. This is an irreversible process and once the cable has activated, the section which has triggered must be cut out and replaced.
FyreLine EN54 Fixed EOL
The FyreLine EN54 Fixed End of Line is designed to effectively terminate up to two zones of FyreLine EN54 Fixed Linear Heat Detection Cable in a secure, weatherproof enclosure. It has built-in switches that are used to simulate fault or alarm conditions to allow the system to be fully tested in situ.
FyreLine EN54 Fixed End of Line is ideally suited for when the system is used in interlock mode to prevent false alarms. In this mode, two fixed LHD cables are run side-by-side and an alarm is only activated on the fire alarm control panel when both cables trigger.
Approvals
EN54-28 is the European Standard for non-resettable line-type heat detectors that consist of a sensing element that uses electrical sensor cable. It specifies the requirements and performance criteria; and the corresponding test methods. This European Standard also covers non-resettable line-type heat detectors intended for use in the local protection of plant and equipment.
Please note: to comply with EN54-28, the FyreLine EN54 Fixed Controller, FyreLine FyreLine EN54 Fixed EOL and FyreLine EN54 Fixed LSZH LHD Cable must be used as a complete system.
All products in the FyreLine EN54 range are approved for use within the European Economic Area (EEA) and comply with the EU’s New Approach Directives and show the CE mark to indicate that they fulfill the requirements of relevant European product directives; meet all the requirements of the relevant recognized European harmonized performance and safety standards; and are fit for purpose and will not endanger lives or property.
System Configurations
There are two operating modes for FyreLine EN54 Fixed Linear Heat Detection:
Independent Mode
This is when FyreLine EN54 Fixed Linear Heat Detection is used as a two zone system. When a fault or overheat condition occurs on a Fixed LHD zone, the corresponding fault or alarm output is triggered. The two zones operate independently and both sets of outputs should be connected to a fire alarm control panel.
In this mode, each zone can contain either identical rated temperature LHD cables or two different rated temperature LHD cables.
Interlock Mode
Interlock Mode, sometimes known as coincidence detection, is for applications which require a fail-safe guarantee that an alarm is only triggered when an overheat condition has been detected. In this case, the same rated temperature Fixed LHD cable should be used for both zones and the alarm output is only activated when both LHD cables trigger an alarm due to an overheat condition. If one Fixed LHD cable zone input registers an alarm but the second does not, the alarm output will not be activated. This is to prevent an alarm if a mechanical or other issue has caused one of the sensing cables to trigger an alarm.
