The Crisis Type B Refuge Outstation is a crucial component of an Emergency Voice Communication System (EVCS), engineered to fully comply with BS5839-9:2011. An EVCS provides a vital fixed, secure, bi-directional voice communication link, assisting firefighters in high-rise buildings or large sites where traditional radio communication might be compromised. These systems are designed to function as fire telephones, disabled refuge systems, or a combined solution.

Specifically, the Type B Outstation is intended for public use as a disabled refuge call point, adhering to the definitions within BS5839-9:2011. It must be located in designated disabled refuge areas, in accordance with Building Regulations Approved Document B and BS9999:2008. Manufactured in the UK, the unit features hands-free operation, a high-volume ringer, and an LED and Braille-enhanced call button for improved accessibility. Its brushed stainless finish and a green flashing button further aid location.

The outstation is compatible with Crisis standalone and network EVCS. For installation, it requires an ‘MK’ style double back-box, with a minimum depth of 25mm, or 35mm if cable glands are used. To comply with Building Regulations Document M for disabled access, the unit should be mounted with its centre line between 900mm and 1200mm from the finished floor level. An adjacent sign is to be placed providing instructions and identifying the call point.
