Wireless Excellence: Your Direct Source for Professional Ajax Systems

10 mins read

Wireless fire detection continues to grow in popularity across commercial and municipal buildings, offering a practical alternative to traditional hardwired systems in situations where cabling is difficult, disruptive or costly. As demand for flexible, fast-to-install fire safety solutions increases, manufacturers with a strong background in wireless technology are bringing new levels of reliability and usability to the fire detection market. Eurofyre is pleased to offer the Ajax EN54 Line – a fully wireless, EN 54 certified fire detection and alarm system – as part of its growing wireless portfolio.

Wireless Fire Detection

Wireless fire detection uses radio communication between detectors, sounders, visual alarm devices, manual call points and the control panel, removing the need for extensive cable runs between devices. This can significantly reduce installation time and disruption, particularly in occupied buildings, heritage properties or premises where extensive containment work would otherwise be required.

Because wireless systems do not rely on fixed cabling routes, they can also offer greater flexibility for future layout changes, refurbishments or building extensions. Many wireless fire systems are now able to operate reliably over long distances and through building fabric such as concrete and steel, whilst battery-powered devices help minimise ongoing maintenance requirements. These characteristics make wireless fire detection well suited to a broad range of commercial, municipal and public buildings.

Ajax EN54 Line

Ajax Systems is an established manufacturer known for its wireless security systems, and has more recently applied this experience to develop the EN54 Line, a fully wireless fire detection and alarm system developed and certified to the European EN 54 standard. The range comprises detectors, sounders, visual alarm devices, manual call points, a range extender and an input/output module, all built around central control and indicating equipment (CIE).

At the heart of the system is the EN54 Fire Hub Jeweller, a wireless CIE with a 10.1-inch touchscreen display that shows fire alarm notifications, zone status and system information. The CIE can support up to 200 wireless devices across 40 fire zones and includes built-in communicators, connecting to monitoring stations via Ethernet, Wi-Fi and two SIM card slots for 4G/2G backup. Detectors and other field devices communicate with the CIE using the Jeweller radio protocol, with a communication range of up to 1,700 metres in open space, and alarms are relayed to sounders and visual alarm devices within three seconds of activation.

Key Features:

Fully Wireless Architecture
Fire detectors, sounders, VADs, manual call points and I/O modules all communicate wirelessly with the CIE, reducing the need for cable containment and simplifying installation.
Addressable Smoke and Heat Detection
EN54 FireProtect Jeweller detectors use a dual-spectrum optical smoke chamber alongside two thermistors, with the HazeFlow 2 algorithm helping to distinguish genuine smoke from steam or dust to reduce unwanted alarms.
Flexible Detection Modes
Detectors can be configured in combined, independent, smoke-only or heat-only detection modes to suit different areas of a building.
Scalable System Design
Up to 200 devices can be connected across 40 zones from a single CIE, with the EN54 Fire ReX Jeweller range extender available to maintain coverage across larger or more complex sites.
Long Battery Life
Field devices operate on long-life batteries with tool-free replacement, helping reduce ongoing maintenance visits.
Third-Party Integration
The EN54 I/O Module (2×2) Jeweller allows the system to interface with equipment such as HVAC systems, door locks and beam detectors.

Approvals

The Ajax EN54 Line is certified in accordance with EN 54-2, EN 54-3, EN 54-4, EN 54-13 and EN 54-25, covering control and indicating equipment, sounders, power supplies and system compatibility. The EN 54-13 certification in particular confirms that the components of the system have been tested to work together reliably as a single, fault-tolerant system.

These certifications give installers and specifiers confidence that the Ajax EN54 Line meets the requirements expected of a fire detection and alarm system used in commercial and municipal buildings.

Restaurants and Cafes

Restaurants and cafes typically operate for extended hours with limited opportunity for downtime, and often occupy premises where extensive cabling works are undesirable. Wireless detectors and sounders can be installed with minimal disruption to daily service, whilst addressable devices help identify the exact location of an alarm within busy customer and kitchen areas.

Car Parks

Car parks present a challenging environment for fire detection due to their scale, exposure to the elements and the presence of vehicles and charging equipment. The long communication range and interference resistance of the Ajax EN54 Line can help provide reliable coverage across open or multi-storey car park structures without the need for extensive wiring infrastructure.
