Linear Heat Detection for Textile Manufacturing Plants

Search

Textile manufacturing is a major industry based on the conversion of fibre into yarn and yarn into fabric. The fabrics produced are then dyed or printed and fabricated into clothes and other textile products.

The textile manufacturing process involves a variety of different fibres and fabrics, chemicals and machinery and is carried out in facilities of all shapes and sizes; from very small to very large.

Like in any manufacturing facilities there are a number of fire risks and, therefore, suitable fire detection must be in place to protect life, materials and property and ensure the plants smooth and continuous operation.

What are the Risks?

The textile manufacturing process introduces some unique fire risks, including:

Flammable Materials
The majority of materials found in textile manufacturing are highly flammable. If a fire breaks out it could spread very quickly with devastating consequences.
Textile Dust and Fibres
Fluff and dust are extremely combustible. Particles floating in the air can easily catch alight and help a fire to spread throughout the facility.
Flammable Chemicals
Dies and other chemicals stored in textile manufacturing facilities are often very flammable and can easily ignite if not treated and stored properly.
Machinery
Machinery such as mills and conveyors can cause friction heat or electrical failures and set nearby materials alight.

What are the Challenges?

Textile manufacturing facilities can be very harsh environments with high levels of cotton and textile dust. This would render traditional type fire detection ineffective and unreliable, resulting in slow response times and false alarms.

What is the Solution?

FyreLine Linear Heat Detection can overcome all the limitations of traditional type detectors. It can provide a fast and reliable response and is impervious to dust and other contaminants.

FyreLine uses heat sensing cable to detect a change in temperature. When part of the cable detects an increase in temperature, it sends a signal to the fire alarm control panel. It can report the exact location of the fire, allowing fire events to be investigated and dealt with quickly.

Heat sensing cable can be installed around machinery such as conveyor belts, warehouse racking, around chemical storage drums, or anywhere else where there is an increased risk of fire.

FyreLine linear heat detection is available in two different types:

FyreLine Digital Linear Heat Detection

FyreLine Digital provides fixed heat detection at rated temperatures of 68°C, 88°C, 105°C or 185°C. Once any part of the cable reaches its rated temperature, a signal is sent to the fire alarm control panel.

FyreLine Digital PVC and Nylon coated linear heat detection cables are approved by the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and bear the CE mark, indicating that they comply with all the relevant directives, including EMC, CPR and the Low Voltage Directive (LVD).

FyreLine Analogue

FyreLine Analogue continually monitors for changes in temperature. Therefore, the alarm temperature can be defined by the user. A pre-alarm temperature can also be defined, allowing time for a potential fire to be investigated before the alarm is raised.

FyreLine analogue control modules and PVC coated linear heat detection cables are also approved by the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and bear the CE mark to show that they comply with all the applicable Directives including the EMC, CPR, and the Low Voltage Directive (LVD).

Wireless Integration

Wi-Fyre Hybrid Fire Detection

Due to its switch-like nature, FyreLine linear heat detection can be combined with Wi-Fyre to provide a wireless, hybrid solution.

Wi-Fyre allows hardwired and wireless detection technology to work together as part of a complete system. A Wi-Fyre Wireless Transponder, installed into the fire alarm’s wiring via a compatible interface module, can communicate with up to 30 wireless mixed field devices such as wireless manual call points, wireless detectors, wireless sounders and wireless input/output (I/O) devices.

In this instance, a Wi-Fyre I/O device can be used to monitor the output of the FyreLine system and report its status wirelessly back to the fire alarm control panel.
