Linear Heat Detection for Industrial Compressors

Search

An industrial compressor is a mechanical device which is designed to increase the pressure of a gas by lowering its volume. Compressors are similar to pumps as they both increase the pressure of a fluid and can transport fluids through a pipe.

What are the Fire Risks Associated with Industrial Compressors?

There are a number of fire risks associated with industrial compressors, the most common being:

  • Rusting
Rusting puts industrial compressors at risk by compromising the integrity of the structure, making it highly likely to combust and start a fire.
  • Gas
As gas is involved in the process of increasing pressure, a fire can break out if gas is to come into contact with flames or flammable materials such as cigarettes, lighters or sparks from wires and plugs.
  • Maintenance
Due to the nature of industrial compressors, high-quality maintenance must be carried out in order to lower the risk of fire. For example, compressors must be cleaned regularly, ensuring all dust particles are removed.

What are the Challenges?

There are a number of challenges that need to be overcome when implementing a reliable fire detection system where industrial compressors are in use, the main being that they vary in shape, size and model and are used in a wide range of environments. This makes it hard for traditional fire detection systems to cover areas where industrial compressors are used, especially as most compressors are prone to rusting.

What is the Solution?

FyreLine linear heat detection is the most efficient solution for protecting industrial compressors from fire as it provides fast detection, and is available with a variety of different coatings, allowing them to operate in even the most challenging of environments. FyreLine has the ability to detect heat anywhere along the length and offers increased response times and accurate detection.

There are two types of FyreLine linear heat detection available, digital and analogue:

FyreLine Digital

FyreLine

FyreLine Digital linear heat detection offers a fixed temperature detection solution at a number of rated temperatures and is, therefore, suited to a variety of applications. Once the cable reaches or exceeds its rated temperature, an alarm signal is sent to the fire alarm control panel where it will raise an alarm.

FyreLine Analogue

Analogue

FyreLine Analogue linear heat detection has the ability to detect heat anywhere along its length and is suitable for a wide range of environments. Fyreline Analogue persistently looks out for changes in temperature and triggers an alarm once its specified temperature is reached. FyreLine Analogue gives users the opportunity to set a pre-alarm warning, allowing them to investigate a potential fire before the alarm is raised.

Coatings

Eurofyre’s range of FyreLine heat sensing cables can be combined with range of coatings to protect a wide range of environments, even those hard to protect environments with the presence of hazardous chemicals, strong acids and sunlight. FyreLine linear heat detection coatings include:

  • Nylon Coated Sensing Cable
  • PVC Coated Sensing Cable
  • Polypropylene Coated Sensing Cable
  • High Temperature Coated Sensing Cable
  • Stainless Steel Braid Coated Sensing Cable
