The ICAM ILQ Aspirating Smoke Detector

3 mins read

The ICAM ILQ Aspirating Smoke Detector is a practical solution for small area applications. Suitable for both high and normal sensitivity applications, its stand-alone functionality, out-of-the-box operation and simplified pipe network give the ICAM ILQ multiple advantages when it comes to installation.

About the ICAM ILQ Aspirating Smoke Detector

ILQ detectors use a sampling network of up to two 6m linear or 9m branched pipe lengths. The ILQ uses two fans to actively draw air from the protected area via two or four sampling holes (one or two on each pipe). The air is then filtered before entering the detection chamber to keep the chamber as clean as possible.

A laser is used within the detection chamber along with a photoelectric receiver. When smoke particles cause the light from the laser to scatter the unit reports an alarm condition (pre-alarm and fire alarm) triggering the corresponding display LEDs and dry contact relays.

Configuration

Set up and configuration can be carried out using DIP switches and a USB interface is also available for the Xtralis QSC Configuration and Fire System Management Software application. The additional AutoLearn™ feature assesses environmental conditions to automatically set suitable smoke alarm thresholds.

Applications

ILQ aspirating smoke detectors are suitable for a wide range of small applications and can cover an area up to 100m2 (1,000ft2). Typical applications include, but are not limited, to:

  • Telco Land-line Remote Offices
  • Base Station Controllers
  • Remote Base Stations
  • Small Server Rooms
  • Datacenter Controllers
  • IT/Equipment Cabinets
  • Packaged HVAC Units
  • Controlled Environment Vaults (CEV)
  • Generator Enclosures

The below image is an example of how the ICAM ILQ can be set up using 1 sampling pipe per inlet with 2 x 4.5mm holes to cover a small server room:

Approvals

The ICAM ILQ Aspirating Smoke Detector is approved by the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) thus ensuring its effective performance. ILQ detectors also carry the CE mark, showing that it meets the requirements of EC directives, and is approved to BS EN 54-20. ILQ detectors are also rated to IP30.

To summarise, the ICAM ILQ is a cost effective aspirating smoke detector suitable for protecting small areas up to 100m2 and has many key features:

  • Laser based absolute smoke detection
  • Clean air barrier for optics protection
  • Up to 110m2 (1,000 ft2) coverage
