Knowledge BaseDescription
Xtralis Power Supply Units (PSUs) are specifically engineered to provide power and battery charging for Xtralis aspirating smoke detectors (ASD), ensuring compliance with EN54-4 standards. The Style E variants hold VdS approval and CE marking, making them suitable for applications requiring these certifications and potentially for ISO 7240-4. Designed to visually complement Xtralis detectors, these PSUs feature temperature-compensated charging to maximise battery longevity and include relay outputs for comprehensive fault monitoring.
A key operational advantage is their ability to function solely on batteries, facilitating initial commissioning when mains power may not be accessible. The units also perform full impedance checks on batteries, disconnect the load after extended mains failures to prevent permanent damage, and consume minimal current to monitor for mains power restoration, safeguarding batteries from deep discharge.
The Style E range comprises three distinct units. The VPS-220-E, a premier 0.5A model, supports up to 14Ah batteries and is designed to integrate seamlessly with VESDA VLP and VLS detectors, sharing their footprint and appearance. For more cost-effective single-pipe ASD applications, the budget-friendly VPS-215-E provides a 0.5A load and accommodates up to 7Ah batteries, maintaining compatibility with various Xtralis detectors.
For larger systems involving multiple detectors or remote displays, the versatile VPS-250-E delivers a 2A load, supporting up to 38Ah batteries. This unit features four separate fused outputs and offers convenient cable access. All models include strategically placed knockouts that align with detector enclosures, alongside visual LED indicators for operational status and fault conditions.
While internal links allow for operational flexibility in non-EN 54-4 installations, such as removing batteries without signalling a fault or adjusting charging current, their removal invalidates the unit’s approval. Eurofyre serves as an authorised distributor, providing expert advice and supply of these compliant Xtralis PSUs.
