Knowledge BaseDescription
The Crisis Type A Fire Telephone, developed and manufactured in the UK, is a crucial component of Eurofyre’s Emergency Voice Communication Systems (EVCS). This versatile outstation fully complies with BS5839-9:2011, functioning either as a fire telephone or a disabled refuge call point, or a combined system when both are required.
An EVCS provides a secure, fixed, bi-directional voice communication system, which is vital for assisting firefighters in emergencies within high-rise buildings or extensive sites where traditional radio communication could be unreliable. The BS5839-9:2011 standard governs the design, installation, and operation of these essential systems, mandating that fire telephones and disabled refuge facilities should form a single, integrated system.
The Crisis Type A unit features a robust brushed stainless steel enclosure with a high contrast red screen print and a durable red telephone handset. Designed for multi-disability users, it includes a telecoil (induction loop coil) compliant with BSEN60118-4 for the hearing-impaired, high contrast signage adhering to RNIB guidelines, and a high volume ringer.
Primarily intended for use by building management, fire wardens, and firefighters, the outstation should be mounted at a height of 1300-1400mm from the floor to comply with Building Regulations Document M. An optional stainless steel bezel is available for flush mounting, and if used as a refuge point, sufficient space must be ensured for wheelchair access.
The unit is compatible with both Crisis standalone and network systems, connecting via a 1 x 2-core 1.5mm screened cable, supporting distances up to 500 metres. It also meets additional standards including BS9999:2017, EN60118-4:2006, and relevant EMC/LVD directives, ensuring reliable performance in critical emergency scenarios.
