Linear Heat Detection for Military Vehicles

Search

A military vehicle includes all land transportation and combat vehicles designed for military forces. A lot of military vehicles have off-road capabilities or a vehicle armour plate and can vary in shape and size.

Military vehicles include:

  • Battle tanks
  • Armoured personnel carriers
  • Mine-protected vehicles
  • Armoured combat support vehicles
  • Self-propelled artillery

What are the Fire Risks Associated with Military Vehicles?

There are many fire risks associated with military vehicles, including:

  • Weather Conditions
Weather conditions pose a fire risk, this was previously seen in South Africa when a grass fire broke out due to extreme weather conditions and set more than 100 military vehicles vehicles alight. Therefore, fast and reliable fire detection is needed to lower the risk of other vehicles becoming victim to the blaze.
  • Engine Bays
Engine bays hold many risks to military vehicles as they are prone to overheating, particularly if it is under a heavy load or travelling at high speeds. This will, therefore, increase the risk of fire if excessive temperatures go unnoticed or are undetected.
  • Cigarettes
Cigarettes pose a fire risk, especially around fuel as if they are to come into contact with one another, a fire could easily break out and cause catastrophic effects.

What is the Solution?

FyreLine linear heat detection is the most effective solution for protecting military vehicles from fire as it provides quick, reliable detection, and is available in a variety of different coatings such as nylon. These coatings allow FyreLine linear heat detection cables to operate in even the most challenging of environments.

FyreLine linear heat detection cable can be installed around engine bays, mechanical parts and any other areas that may be prone to overheating. A nylon coating is also available for use in areas with fluctuating temperatures and a presence of atmospheric gas. Nylon coating is highly durable, meaning it is safe for use where hydrocarbons such as fuel and oils are present to provide increased mechanical protection.

There are two types of FyreLine linear heat detection available, analogue and digital:

FyreLine Analogue

FyreLine Analogue

FyreLine Analogue linear heat detection is suitable for a number of environments and has the ability to detect heat anywhere along its length. Fyreline Analogue constantly monitors for changes in temperature and activates an alarm once its specified temperature is reached. FyreLine Analogue also provides users with the opportunity to set a pre-alarm warning, allowing them to investigate a potential fire before the alarm is raised.

FyreLine Digital

FyreLine Digital

FyreLine Digital linear heat detection offers a fixed temperature detection solution at a number of rated temperatures; 68°C, 88°C, 105°C or 185°C and is, therefore, suited to a wide range of applications. Once the cable reaches or exceeds its rated temperature, an alarm signal is sent to the fire alarm control panel where it will raise an alarm.

Coatings

Eurofyre’s range of FyreLine heat sensing cables can be combined with a variety of coatings to protect a number of environments, even hard to protect environments with the presence of sunlight, strong acids and hazardous chemicals. FyreLine linear heat detection coatings include:

  • PVC Coated Sensing Cable
  • Nylon Coated Sensing Cable
  • Stainless Steel Braid Coated Sensing Cable
  • High Temperature Coated Sensing Cable
  • Polypropylene Coated Sensing Cable
