Linear Heat Detection for Electrical Cupboards

Search

An electrical cupboard is an enclosure used to mount switches, displays and dials in order to prevent electric shock and protect the contents from the environment. Electrical enclosures can either be located indoors or outdoors and must adhere to a variety of regulations and requirements in order to keep people and the environment safe.

What are the Fire Risks Associated with Electrical Cupboards?

There are many fire risks associated with electrical cupboards such as:

  • Faulty Equipment
If equipment is not regularly maintained, cables can become faulty and sparks may be produced.
  • Flammable Substances
Some components in electrical cupboards may contain gases or other flammable substances. If an ignition source is provided explosions can occur and ignite flammable vapours from outdoor environments, dust or other surrounding flammable materials.

What are the Challenges?

Electrical cupboards can often differ in shape and size and may be produced differently depending on where they are going to be placed. Therefore, conventional fire detection will not suffice as full coverage cannot be guaranteed. As well as this, electrical cupboards hold a wide range of apparatus, meaning the temperature is prone to fluctuate depending on how long the system has been on for and how many cables and switches are needed

What is the Solution?

FyreLine linear heat detection is the ideal solution for protecting electrical cupboards from fire. FyreLine heat sensing cables can either be installed in areas that are likely to overheat, or can be installed to cover the whole area of electrical cupboards. FyreLine linear heat detection offers a detailed and accurate location of excess heat detected anywhere along its length.

FyreLine Digital

FyreLine Digital

FyreLine Digital offers a fixed temperature solution at a number of rated temperatures and is, therefore, suited to a wide range of applications. Once the cable exceeds or reaches its rated temperature an event signal will be sent to the fire alarm control panel where an alarm is raised. FyreLine Digital is available in four different temperature ratings; 68°C, 88°C, 105°C or 185°C.

FyreLine Analogue

FyreLine Analogue

FyreLine Analogue differs to FyreLine Digital as it constantly looks for changes in temperature and triggers its alarm once a specified temperature is reached. FyreLine Analogue gives users the opportunity to set a pre-alarm warning, allowing them to investigate a potential fire before the alarm is raised.
