The Apollo Series 65 Optical Smoke Detector is specifically engineered to identify smoke from slow-burning, smouldering fires. Employing light sensing technology, it is an ideal solution for critical areas such as bedrooms and escape routes. The detector’s robust construction ensures reliable performance, being unaffected by external elements like wind or atmospheric pressure, and includes options for a flashing LED and magnet-operated test switch.

Its operation relies on an internal detection chamber where an infrared LED and a photo-diode are positioned at an obtuse angle. The LED emits collimated light, which typically bypasses the diode. However, when smoke enters the chamber, the light scatters and is directed onto the photo-diode, initiating a detection sequence.

To confirm a genuine alarm, the detector emits two further bursts of light. If scattering persists, an alarm is triggered, visibly indicated by an external red LED. The detector’s housing is a self-extinguishing white polycarbonate, featuring wind-resistant smoke inlets and an insect-resistant cover. Designed for resilience, it operates effectively in temperatures from -20 to 60°C and humidity up to 95%, without condensation.
