Description

The VESDA VLC-EX (LaserCOMPACT) Aspirating Smoke Detector, now discontinued, was engineered for very early warning smoke detection in hazardous Zone 2 applications. Eurofyre provides ongoing support, including spare parts, servicing, and training for these units. Encased in an IP54-rated stainless steel enclosure, the detector integrated a modified aspirator with proven VESDA VLP technology, offering absolute smoke detection across a broad sensitivity range.

Its two-part housing protected internal components, and two versions existed: Relay Only (RO) and VESDAnet (VN). The VN model facilitated remote display compatibility and allowed multiple detectors to be linked. The system operates by continuously drawing air through a pipe network, filtering it, then using a laser in a detection chamber to measure light scatter from smoke particles.

All operational data, alarms, and faults were logged with timestamps and could be transmitted via VESDAnet or relays. Notable features included three programmable alarm levels, air flow monitoring, and a clean air barrier for optics protection, alongside an AutoLearn function. The VLC-EX met stringent ATEX and IECEx approvals for Zone 2 environments.
