VESDA VLC Marine aspirating smoke detectors provide all the benefits of aspirating smoke detection, including very early warning of fire, for marine environments. These detectors have been through additional rigorous testing to ensure optimum performance in even the most challenging of marine applications.
VESDA VLC Marine detectors combine tried and tested VESDA Laser detection technology, dual-stage air filtration technology and a reliable aspirator design (similar to the standard VLC detectors) with a compact, IP30 rated enclosure with a simplified display.
Marine detectors are rated to IP30 and can be housed in an IP66 enclosure, available from Eurofyre, should higher protection be required. All VESDA Marine products are approved by Det Norske (DNV) and can be installed in the following location classes:
Like the standard VESDA VLC detectors, Marine Detectors are available in two different versions: one that interfaces via relays only (RO) and one that interfaces via relays and VESDAnet (VN).
The VN version allows multiple detectors on VESDAnet and allows one detector to act as a reference detector for the others. The VN version is compatible with the Marine version of the remote display module, allowing the status of the detector to be reported at the most convenient location. The Marine remote display module has seven remote relays available to support any combination signalling that is required by the application.
How it Works
VESDA VLC detectors are constructed of two parts: the main enclosure and the front cover. All the key components of the detector are housed in the main enclosure, while non-serviceable items such as the main processor board and detector chamber are mounted away from the general access area, protecting them during servicing and installation.
The front cover has five LEDs indicating fire, pre-alarm/alert, fault, OK and reset/isolate conditions and a reset/isolate push button.
A high-efficiency aspirating fan continually draws air from the protected areas via sampling holes in a network of aspirating pipe. The drawn air passes a flow sensor and a sample is directed through a dual-stage dust filter. The first stage of the dust filter removes dust and dirt from the air before it enters the smoke detection chamber, and the second ultrafine stage provides a clean air supply to form clean air barriers to protect the optical surfaces from contamination.
A stable, high-efficiency laser light source and unique sensor configuration are used in the detection chamber to achieve the best possible response to a variety of smoke types. Light scatter is created by smoke entering the chamber which is detected by the very sensitive sensor circuitry.
All alarms, service, fault events and the status of the detector are monitored and logged with accurate time and date stamps. Status reporting is transmitted via relay connections or via the advanced VESDAnet communications network (VN version only).
