Floating roof storage tanks typically contain highly flammable products. Potential fires can cause significant loss or downtime as well as put lives in serious danger. Therefore, it’s imperative that these types of applications have a fast and efficient fire detection solution in place.
The main cause of fires is the ignition of flammable vapours leaking from a worn or damaged rim seal. Therefore, floating roof storage tanks require a flexible fire detection system that can accommodate the movement of their roof.
In this situation, linear heat detection can provide the optimal solution. Linear heat sensing cable can be installed around the circumference of the roof seal which, with the assistance of the FyreLine Automatic Cable Reeler, can accommodate the rise and fall of the roof.
The FyreLine Automatic Cable Reeler is installed at the top of the tank with the cable connected to a junction box located on the floating roof. The automatic reeler adjusts for the movement of the roof, allowing the cable to uncoil as the roof falls and winding it back in again as the roof rises.
The automatic cable reeler mechanism is housed in a stainless steel 316 cabinet. The 4 core connecting cable is 23 meters long and is resistant to chemicals and high temperatures. It also has a removable plate to allow easy inspection.
