Overview

Introduction

VESDA-E VEP Aspirating Smoke Detectors are highly sensitive aspirating smoke detectors that provide increased reliability and advanced features. They provide a very early warning of fire and superior nuisance alarm rejection for a wide variety of applications.

Built on Flair Detection Technology, VESDA-E VEP Aspirating Smoke Detectors achieve consistent performance over their lifetime via absolute calibration. These detectors offer a range of revolutionary features that provide user value.

The VEP range offers absolute calibration, multi-stage filtration and optical protection with clean air barriers to provide continual detection performance.

A smart onboard filter retains a dust count and remaining filter life to allow maintenance to be scheduled in advance.

VESDA-E VEP detectors offer four alarm levels, a wide sensitivity range and use flow fault thresholds for each port to support changeable airflow conditions. They can deliver Class A, B or C aspirating smoke detection and are available in single or four pipe variations making this range of detectors suitable for a host of applications.

Area Coverage

Single pipe VESDA-E VEP detectors have a total area coverage of 1,000 m2 (10,760 sq. ft) and four pipe variants can cover areas of 2,000 m2 (21,520 sq. ft).

EN54-20 Aspirating Smoke Detection Sensitivity Classes

Aspirating Smoke Detection (ASD) sensitivity classes categorise systems based on their ability to detect smoke concentrations. Class A offers the highest sensitivity, Class B is normal sensitivity and Class C, with reduced sensitivity. These sensitivity classes ensure that ASD systems are tailored to specific applications, providing early smoke detection in critical areas while minimising false alarms in less demanding environments. Choosing the right class depends on the location’s unique requirements for fire safety.

In order to achieve the required class, a maximum number of sampling holes applies (pipe calculations should be carried out in order to determine the exact sensitivity):

Class AVEP-A00-1P: 30
VEP-A00-P: 40
VEP-A10-P: 40
Class BVEP-A00-1P: 40
VEP-A00-P: 80
VEP-A10-P: 80
Class CVEP-A00-1P: 45
VEP-A00-P: 100
VEP-A10-P: 100

Pipe Lengths

VESDA-E VEP is equipped with a powerful aspirator that enables use of a total of 100m of sampling pipe in the one pipe model and 280m of pipe in the four pipe model.

Flair Detection Technology

Flair Detection Technology uses direct imaging of the sampled particles using a CMOS imager combined with multiple photo-diodes. This allows better detection and fewer nuisance alarms.

Orientation

VESDA-E VEP Aspirating Smoke Detectors can be inverted if the pipe network requires that the sampling pipes enter the detector at the bottom. The fascia of the detector can also be inverted so the user interface has the correct orientation.

Indication

The VESDA-E VEP-A00 detector features a range of LED Indicators to indicate Alert, Action, Fire 1, Fire 2, Disabled, Fault and Power.

VESDA-E VEP A10 detectors have a built-in 3.5″ touch screen that provides a range of status information, accessible via a series of screens.

VESDAnet

VESDAnet is a bidirectional data communication network between connected VESDA-E devices. The VESDAnet network allows VESDA-E VEP detectors to report alarms and faults to a fire panel using a remote display module, remote relay module or HLI. It also allows configuration and monitoring of devices from a central computer and connection to a reference detector.

Backward Compatibility

VESDA-E VEP is fully compatible with existing VESDA installations and occupies the same pipe, conduit, mounting footprint and electrical positioning as VESDA VLP. VESDA-E VEP detectors are also compatible with existing VESDAnet installations, allowing both VESDA-E and legacy detectors to be monitored via the latest iVESDA application.
