Eurofyre’s Vision of Wireless Fire Detection

Until recently wireless fire detection has only been available as a whole, system based fire detection solution. This meant that it could only be used for new systems or retrofit systems. Even then, wireless detection was not without its flaws, and not suitable for some applications.

Our innovative wireless fire detection solution provides system designers with the flexibility to use wireless detection technology wherever necessary – helping them to reduce costs and installation time, whether it is used as part of a new system or to upgrade or extend a new fire alarm system.

Wi-Fyre offers the best of both worlds – combining wired technology with wireless technology, exploiting the strengths of both types of technology.

Wi-Fyre - Wireless Sounder Animation

BS 5839-1 dictates that the sound level of a fire alarm sounder must be at a minimum of 65dB(A), or at least 5dB(A) above a background noise that is louder than 60dB(A), and at a frequency between 500Hz and 1000Hz.

For areas where people may be sleeping, sounder devices must produce a minimum of 75dB(A) at the head of the bed when all the doors are closed. Around 20dB(A) is lost through doors, 30dB(A) if it is a fire door, which makes the required level almost unachievable without placing a sounder in the room.

Picture this… A new fire alarm installation has been completed but certain areas do not meet the required BS 5839-1 Standards. The project is already passed the first-fix stages and it is impossible to run additional cabling for supplementary sounders without causing disruption to wall and ceiling materials.

Enter Wi-Fyre

Wi-Fyre allows for wireless fire alarm devices to connect seamlessly to existing wireless or hardwired fire alarm systems. This means that additional sounders can be added to an installation, at any stage of the project, with minimal disruption to the property.

This unique and innovative technology is extremely flexible and has six modes of user-selectable operation: conventional, standalone, addressable (collective), reflective, ProFyre addressable and ProFyre 2-Wire addressable.

Approvals

Wi-Fyre is fully certified to the european product standard for wireless fire alarms (EN54-25) which requires all wireless systems sold in Europe to be tested by a 3rd party test house to confirm that it meets very exact requirements.

Wi-Fyre also complies with the requirements of BS 5839-1 – the code of practice for design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of systems in non-domestic premises – and ENTSI 300:220 – the standards required to meet the requirements of the Radio Equipment Directive (RED).

Wi-Fyre Wireless Transponder

Wi-Fyre Wireless Fire Detection

When integrating Wi-Fyre devices with a new or existing fire detection system at least one Wi-Fyre Transponder must be used. Each transponder is able to communicate with up to 30 mixed, field devices and are typically connected directly to the fire alarm wiring. In this example the transponder can be connected to the new or existing conventional sounder circuit or via a loop powered addressable sounder circuit controller.

Wi-Fyre Wireless Sounder

Wi-Fyre - Wireless Sounder

Wi-Fyre wireless sounders can be wall or ceiling mounted and are available in either red or white finishes. Each sounder has eight user-selectable tones and a integrated volume control.

These sounders are also available with an integrator LED indicator to provide a visual alert when activated.

A Wi-Fyre Wireless OEM Platform Sounder is also available to allow other, compatible sounders to be connected wirelessly to the fire alarm system.

Wi-Fyre Wireless Survey

Wi-Fyre - Wireless Survey Head

When installing wireless devices, a wireless survey must first be conducted to ensure that the signal between the wireless devices and the Wi-Fyre transponder is strong enough for the system to work effectively.

A Wi-Fyre wireless survey head is available to test the signal strength. To carry out a survey the survey head is placed at the location the device, in this instance the additional sounders, and connected to the transponder. The survey heads eight-way colour coded rotary LED display will then give an indication of the signal strength at that point to insure that it will meet the required performance.

This is just one scenario where Wi-Fyre Wireless Fire Detection can be used to save costs and reduce installation time and maintenance.
