Overview

The VESDA replacement filter cartridge (VSP-005 for single units and VSP-025 for a pack of 20) is used to replace filter cartridges in VESDA LaserCOMPACT, LaserFOCUS, LaserPLUS and LaserSCANNER detectors.

One model fits all detectors.

The Importance of Filter Replacement in VESDA Detectors

The filters used in VESDA detectors are key to the performance of the detector. VESDA filers remove dust contamination from the sampled air, providing a clean air bleed to preserve the optics in the detection chamber. Like any other filter, filters in VESDA detectors must be replaced regularly to ensure optimum efficiency.

It is recommended that the filter is replaced in the VESDA VLC, VLS, VLP and VLF every two years to maintain the operational integrity of the detector (you may want to consider replacing the filter more frequently if the detector is used in dusty or dirty conditions). Instructions on how to do this can be found in the replacement instructions in the download section below.

How old is your current filter?

To determine the age of your current filter, first locate it using the instructions in the download section (this varies slightly between the different detectors).

Once you have located the filter, compare its label colour to the chart below. If the label matches any of the colours in the chart, replace it immediately

Replacing the Filter

Before replacing the filter in your detector, it may be necessary to advise any monitoring authorities that the detector may be offline for a short period.

Ensure that the area surrounding the filter is clear of dirt and debris and remove the filter. Do not attempt to clean and reuse the filter, VESDA filters are intended for single-use only. Once the new filter has been inserted the detector needs to be informed that a new filter has been installed.

If, while checking your filters, you discover that the detector is more than ten years old, then it is recommended that you upgrade your system. While the system may seem to operate reliably, service and/or failure may occur more frequently as a result of system degradation. At this point, you may want to consider making use of the VESDA Detector Replacement Program – a program which provides significant cost savings as part of a volume-based preventative maintenance program.
