VESDA VLC Aspirating Smoke Detectors have been specifically designed to provide all the benefits of aspirating smoke detection in single environment small areas and where space is limited.
VLC detectors incorporate a modified aspirator design combined with the well-proven VESDA VLP detection technology into a compact enclosure with a simplified display.
There are two main versions of the VLC available: one that interfaces via relays only (RO) and one that interfaces via relays and VESDAnet (VN).
There is also an Apollo XP95 version that is specifically designed to support the Apollo communication protocol. This version also has a loop in/out connection, which negates the need for an additional interface to monitor the fault and fire signal.
The VN version allows several detectors to be linked together on VESDAnet which allows one to act as a reference detector for other VESDA detectors. A Remote Display module is also available for use with the VN version of the VLC, that provides the ability for the current status of the detector to be reported in a convenient location. The Remote Display module has 7 remote relays to support any combination of signalling required by the application.
There are two parts to the VLC: the main enclosure and the front cover.
All the key components of the detector are housed in the main enclosure. All non-serviceable items, such as the main processor board and detector chamber, are mounted away from the general access areas so they are protected during the installation and service process.
The front cover includes a five-LED display with Fire, Pre-alarm/alert, Fault, OK and Rest/Isolate indication and a Reset/Isolate push button (press to reset, press and hold to isolate).
How it Works
A high-efficiency aspirator is used to continually draw air into a central detector unit via a simple pipe network.
The air is passed through a flow sensor before a sample is transferred through a dual-stage dust filter. This filter removes any dust and dirt from the sample before it enters the chamber for detection.
A highly-efficient laser light source and unique sensor configuration are used in the chamber to achieve the optimum response to a broad range of smoke types.
When smoke passes through the detection chamber the VLCs very sensitive sensor circuitry detects light scatter caused by any smoke in the chamber.
All alarms, service and fault events are monitored and logged with time and date stamps, and status reporting can be transmitted via simple relay connections, or across the advanced VEDSnet communications network (VN version only).

The VESDA VLC is fully approved by VdS and LPCB for safe use and installation in any European Union country and bears the CE mark to show that it complies with all the applicable Directives including the CPR, EMC and the Low Voltage Directive (LVD).
